Fjølsenkøping was founded in 847, nearly 400 years after the arrival of Høgørøk and his men at Hjalmar Fiord. The name "Fjølsenkøping" may have two origins: It either comes from Fjølsen the Shrat, one of Høgørøk´s men who later was responsible for collecting hoppen and malt in the wood. Another suggestion is that Fjølsenkøping means "the rock that looks like a head". For there is no such rock in the near area - and never has been - the inhabitants of Fjølsenkøping prefer the first of both explanations.

Hjalmar Fiord is one of the oldest Fiords in Norway - which means that it is as well one of the oldest in whole northern Europe. During Ice Time, Norway was completely covered with ice in different matters of taste. When Ice Time was over, it was melting and leaving Fiords all along the Norwegian coastline.

From time to time settlers came to the unwirtlich area - they all died because of foodmangel. Later on Vikings settled down on the coast. They brought their own food with them, but not much. Viking life was ascetic and without luxury. There was no electric strom and not even heating. In their former days, the Vikings had stolen goods from other sailors. This was a problem on festland: As there were only Vikings, Viking had to steal from Viking. Producing moreworth was impossible.

Things became different when Høgørøk invented Høgørøk Øl. More and more people settled down at Hjalmar Fiord. They didn´t have to be afraid of being robbed out, because the Vikings were "høgørøked" all the time which means they were full of Høgørøk. Life became normal, and Fjølsenkøping could be founded.
